Dear BT.com,

If Adam (Kris Marshall) had to put up with the shoddy service I’ve experienced in the last few days, I’m sure he would have thrown his BT Vision box through his 40″ flatscreen telly!  Oh, that’s right, since he left his on-screen missus, he’s gone to another ISP - and the service is equally rubbish.

Answer me this - why have I received an email telling me that I’ve nearly reached my broadband cap, when the contention or throttling on my connection is so poor after about 6pm, that I find it almost impossible to use any of the fun ‘web 2.0′ tools that smatter the interweb;  YouTube buffers for an eternity.  iPlayer stops and starts so much that I choose to miss the ummissible the second time round.  I fail to see how I’ve used any bandwidth at all.

Second, on the rare occasions that I use the BT Vision on demand service to watch a movie, it sticks so much or drops the audio so much that I end up watching the film twice.  Not in the normal ‘that was a great film, let’s watch it again’ kind of way…. but the ‘watch 5 seconds with no audio, rewind, wait for the buffer to catch up, watch with audio’ way.  A 90 minute film last night took over 2 hours to get through.

Even if the film streams perfectly, the HDMI output from the box no longer works, so my investment in a 40″ HD ready flat screen was a waste of money.

I’d complain, but the last time I tried that I didn’t have any sort of BT Vision for a week and ended up escalating through a family friend who works for BT.

I’d move to Virgin Media, but they haven’t invested in the infrastructure round my way, so it’d still be analogue.  I can’t even put a dish on the wall.

“A complete damp squib” say the Lib Dems.

What use is broadband in every home, when every home doesn’t have a computer. I’m sure that was one of the original manifesto policies from the mid 90s.

I’m all for equal access to the internet, but I think we have more pressing matters to attend to first.
